Get ready! The Fourth of July is only the start of Firework Season

If your pup(s) is/are anything like me, then he/she spends most of their time hiding in fear somewhere safe and dark when those all too familiar booms go off. Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, but don't be fooled thinking its the only day you'll be hearing fireworks. Where I'm from Summer is "firework season" and you'll need something to help you make it through the next few months.

Mom has spent a lot of time and effort trying to find different ways to help with the anxiety I get triggered by fireworks. I've tried lots of different snacks, teas, and oils; but almost all of them have NOT worked for me. This year mom has finally found some products that really help ease my shaking legs and constant panting.

Our new evening routine includes the following products; Sentry Calming Ointment for Dogs, Thunder Shirt by Thunder Works, and Hemp Quiet Moments Snacks by Naturvet.

All of these products can almost always be found at any pet store, we know for sure PetSmart, Petco, and Chewy.com carry them.

Here are my quick reviews and tips on using them.

Mom found this one at our local PetSmart, we linked the exact one from Chewy.com for $11. This ointment is a temporary alleviation for anxious dogs in stressful situations. The ointment goes directly on the top of your dogs nose and can be applied as often as needed (a little goes a long way). The first time we tried this mom saw an instant change in my symptoms. I went from shaking uncontrollably to playing with my toys and eating my dinner. Some nights mom needs to apply the ointment more than once, but for the most part once is enough to calm me down and get me into bed. Results for this might vary, but it's worth a shot to see if it will help your pup(s). We've read lots of good reviews and that's why we opted to try this one out.

I've been using the Thunder Shirt for about two years now. Mom bought mine at Petco, but we've linked the shirt from the actual website. How does the Thunder Shirt work? Well its more of a wrap than an actual shirt. According to our vet, wraps were made to give dogs a sense of security, utilizing soft and constant pressure. The pressure from the "shirt" helps alleviate the symptoms of my anxiety. When using just my Thunder Shirt I do continue to shake but I feel more confident being out in the open. Versus feeling like I need to hide in the smallest and darkest area I can find. The Thunder Shirt sells for $44.95, a little pricey but a good investment. The quality is amazing! My velcro is still sticking and the fabric has zero tears or signs of damage. Mom recommends using it with anxiety supplements to ensure your fur pal feels really safe.

The last product mom gives to me are these little hemp snacks by Naturvet (we've linked them from Chewy.com). Now these ones are a little tricky ... These need to be given prior to being in a stressful environment. Mom started using these when I was a year old. I had really bad anxiety going to the groomers, so she would sneak one in my dry food 15-20 mins before my appointment. They take about 30 mins to kick in so make sure you time your first dosage as best as possible.

A combination of all three of these products every evening helps me stay calm and relaxed all night long!

I would like to mention again that the results of these products might vary and it's very important to make sure you test them on your pup(s) first. Always make sure to research ingredients in new products to make sure no allergic reactions will occur.

Be safe and stay well friends.
