Arm & Hammer Tartar Control

Is it everything you're looking for?

Hey everyone! Today I’m reviewing Arm & Hammer’s Tartar Control toothpaste for dogs, in Beef Flavor. Due to the current stay at home restrictions mom hasn’t been able to take me to the groomer. A typical day at the groomer includes; a bath, brush, nail trimming, and of course getting my teeth cleaned. However since mom’s been grooming me at home she noticed I have a small amount of tartar build up on my back teeth. And she did not like that!

Mom did lots of research and found Arm & Hammer Tartar Control toothpaste. It’s specifically created to help with tartar build up. The packaging for the toothpaste has all the benefits, ingredients, and images of before/after using the product. The box is a decent size, perfect for traveling. Mom’s even able to stick my Tropiclean toothbrush and finger brush in the box too! This specific toothpaste is “enzymatic”. According to mom, that means it has special enzymes that help break down bacteria and lessen tartar build up, improving my “bad breath” as well. *eye roll*

Our first impression of the toothpaste was that it didn’t smell bad! We’ve tried different flavored toothpaste in the past and they’ve all smelled too overwhelming. I also don’t like peanut butter which is typically the most popular flavored toothpaste for dogs. So finding one that smells like meat with a hint of peppermint was awesome. The toothpaste is white in color and although I was hesitant of mom sticking it in my mouth at first, I actually enjoyed how it tasted. Mom also liked that the toothpaste was in between a pasty and watery consistency. She says it’s easier to rub around, dissolves much quicker and less likely that I would eat it all before she gets to use it. *eye roll again*

My experience with it?

The first and second day were the best because mom let me just lick some of the toothpaste of my small finger brush. The third day was the worst because she had to lift up my lips and I wasn’t entirely comfortable with that. But by the fourth day I was more than willing to let mom brush my teeth, because I just love how it tastes. She was super happy about that!

Pros:

  • Tasty, smells more bearable than most

  • Decent size (2.5 oz)

  • Easy to use

  • Price point compares to other products ($8-9)

Cons:

  • Only one flavor

  • Have to buy different toothpaste for "fresh breath" and "gum disease prevention"

Mom and I recommend this product if you’re looking to reduce your fur pal’s current tartar build up (if it isn’t too severe or is just beginning). We do NOT recommend this product if your fur pal has a severe amount of tartar build up. He/she should be taken to see a professional for a cleaning.

Overall we both think this toothpaste is a great option if you’re looking to keep up your furry friends hygiene at home!
